Request For Information (RFI) for next-generation expendable aerial target (EAT NG) drones designed to simulate high-speed anti-ship missiles

The target drone must reach speeds of at least 300 metres per second at low altitude roughly Mach 0.87 sustain flight for 60 minutes, operate as low as five metres above sea level, and climb at no less than 20 metres per second.

It must execute 2G sustained turns, mimicking the agility of contemporary anti-ship threats.

Radio control must function up to 100 kilometres from the ground station, with full autonomous flight capability along pre-programmed paths including mid-course speed and altitude changes. The ground control station must simultaneously manage at least six targets.

In case of data-link failure, the system must be recoverable as per user programme.

The drone requires a low radar cross-section by default but must accommodate augmentation via transponders or corner reflectors when a larger signature is needed.

An acoustic miss-distance indicator capable of detecting rounds from 20mm cannon to surface-to-air missiles within a 10-metre radius, is mandatory for post-engagement assessment.

Launch must be possible from ship or shore via rocket-assisted takeoff, in conditions up to sea state 3 and winds of 30 knots.

After ditching, the drone must float long enough for recovery by boat or helicopter. Expected service life is 15 years.

Indian Navy indigenisation efforts.

Two high value Indigenous projects acquisition....?? Does Anyone know about these projects ?
one of them has to be P17B.

the other Could be NGC(although i think we alr got l1 bidders and all that last year), IAC-2(high chance of a vikrant repeat with improvements to replace vikramadtiya)(there is also some chance for an EMALS version but vikrant improvement seems most likely)

it could also be NGD if the WDB has finished the design

Wow, so GSL is interested in P-17B. Building those 2 x Batch-IV Talwars must've been a good stepping stone to building full-fledged principle surface combatants (PSCs).

This will solidify a 3rd PSC-building yard for India.

But remains to be seen how the P-17B order will be split. The 3rd yard will make it viable to increase number of total hulls that can all be delivered within a reasonable period of time, but given the extra capex it'll take, it doesn't seem we're interested in that. As the poster says, the program is still only for 7 hulls.

There is an opportunity here to split the 7 x P-17Bs between GRSE & GSL (4 & 3 respectively, just like P-17A split) while dedicating MDL as a destroyer-building yard.

We're supposedly gonna be building 8 x or so NGDs, which is twice as many hulls as what a single flight consisted of in the P-15A/B era so there's scope for simultaneous build on a larger number of NGD hulls.

Would be interesting to see if GSL does win the contract to build a part of the P17B frigates especially when both MDL & GRSE seem to have matured their modular construction techniques and managed to bring down build times significantly.
For example, INS Mahendragiri, the final Nilgiri class frigate being built by MDL is scheduled for induction into the Navy in the next few months.
If it gets comissioned prior to June 2026, it will the fastest frigate build time that any Indian public sector shipyard would have achieved from keel laying to induction in 4 years flat.
These timelines were unheard of prior to P17A program.
Similarly, build times for P17A frigates being built by GRSE average between 5-6 years.
Since these boats are significantly bigger and technologically more complex than the Batch 4 Talwars being built by GSL, it would be interesting to see.

India-Japan to finalise deal to co-develop & co-produce UNICORN radar ‘soon’, says Japanese envoy

The countries signed a memorandum for co-development of UNICORN masts in November 2024. India has been second Asian nation to have such an agreement with Tokyo, after Philippines.

The Philippine Navy’s guided missile frigate BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6) successfully detected an Indian Navy submarine during the anti-submarine warfare phase of the Exercise MILAN 2026.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad, the Malvar was the only one among the participating warships that managed to locate the submarine during the drills held off Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in India.

“There were 33 warships from different nations involved,” Trinidad told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Tuesday.

“During the conduct of the [anti-submarine warfare], it was only our warship that was able to detect the submarine,” he added.

Does any one know which submarine participated ?
