ADU. Wanted to also talk about the NG . India is now preparing to field the BrahMos-NG. What makes this next-generation missile so important?
Praveen Pathak. BrahMos-NG represents India’s next leap in strike capability. It is a Mach-3 cruise missile designed to be faster, lighter and more versatile than the current BrahMos. The NG will undergo its first flight tests in 2026 and will significantly expand deployment options for our armed forces.
ADU. How different is the NG variant from the existing BrahMos?
Praveen Pathak. The BrahMos-NG is nearly 50% lighter and approximately 3 metres shorter than the existing system. This reduction in size doesn’t compromise performance. In fact, it enables the missile to be carried by a wider range of platforms, including fighter jets, warships and submarines.
ADU. Which aircraft and platforms will be able to carry BrahMos-NG?
Praveen Pathak. The NG is being designed for true multi-platform flexibility. It can be integrated on Su-30MKIs, MiG-29Ks, Tejas and besides aircraft, it will also be deployable from naval ships and submarines, making it one of the most adaptable cruise missiles in its class.
