Indigenous Diesel Engines: Update & Discussions

These are current projects running in DRDO lab CVRDE. All these projects are planned to be completed by 2030.

Small typo on the poster. It should be "600/800 hp transmission" not "600/8000 hp transmission". That transmission is obviously meant to be coupled with this engine:

Ashok Leyland's Neptune series of turbodiesel engines today go up to ~400 hp. The 600/800 hp engine would be the natural step for AL.

So many projects with L&T as the principal contractor. With the K9 Vajra & the Zorawar projects at hand, L&T can emerge as they primary producer of light/medium tracked vehicles in India. A few years back you would think TATA motors would be in this position not L&T.

Medium to Heavy tracked vehicles would probably remain the domain of BEML/CVRDE. Maybe the NG-MBT project would change that.

Nice. This could actually be the Arjun variant as it says "T configuration powerpack" (longitudinal engine, transversal transmission) and then there's the CV1500"A".

It would seem that the original CV1500 is a U config (transversal engine, transversal transmission) meant for the NGMBT, going by that recent flyer/brochure for the 1500 hp transmission.

This is the engine that is being developed with Ashok Leyland, started 5 years ago. With the introduction of the light tank, they also began working on an 800hp version.

I said unknown Origin in the sense that I don't know the origin of the Brochure itself not that I am unaware of the fact that CVRDE is developing an engine

Maybe you could edit my post to brush up this grammatical mistake

Yeah way back in 2023 December CVRDE job work listed the engine related work, given it takes 12-24 months work each project it matches with the suggested timeline for completion. Hopefully all are in good shape. Whether the end product is accepted by the user or rejected, we can not tell.

ps: DRDO site is down , why did they release a new site where the url does not work?
