175 km for an Anti-AWACs variant is quite low no? It'll most prolly be extended to at least beyond the range of the astra mk3 cause it wont make any sense otherwise

One of the reason I think IIR seeker is not yet fully mass used is the problem associated with error free performance not yet fully realised. It is ok when you use those for interceptor role in ASAT or ABM or low subsonic, but when it comes to aerial engagement within the atmosphere or using with high kinetic missiles against ground target, the accuracy wrt gimbal based system suffer massively from the stabilisation pov, esp the navigation also being SDINS or dual redundant nav used. Had seen several papers, have to read again.

A comparison between V-SHORAD and LMM. It seems IA went for the versatility aspect. The missile was developed from Starburst and has been in operation since 2021 (so quite recent).

will we still buy VSHORADS? i mean its still needed in large numbers to compliment and replace the igla no?

This likely supersedes the MoU between Thales and BDL for license producing Starstreak in India which is a good thing.

LMM may have multiple applications but the Brits themselves don't appear to be standardizing on it just yet. They are buying more Javelin ATGMs. The IA certainly won't replace its Iglas, Milan, Spike with LMM.

UK signs $468 mln deal to supply India with missiles

Jizya payment. Useless procurement.

When we have ULPGM-V3, why buy this? Make a ULPGM-V4 with SAL.

We already have SANT too.

The 8km range is for air to surface variant. Not surface to air launched role.

Half a billion wasted.

This half a billion is the difference between IAF having A330 MMRTs or not.

This seems to be more in line with the UK generating job opportunities to be honest. No shade on the missile but that's how it is looking like.

Our helicopters are flying without ATGM.

Zero orders for helina & dhruvastra.

Chodiji should be given belt treatment for wasting half a billion dollars on useless weapons.

For the Army, it can take out threats ranging from light armoured, wheeled and tracked vehicles to aerial platforms within a distance of 6 km.

It is designed for an urban environment

The UK and India in February agreed to expand collaboration on next-generation weapons with Thales and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signing a contract to deliver Laser Beam Riding MANPADs (LBRM), with an initial supply of High Velocity Missiles (STARStreak) and launchers to be delivered later this year.

This amount would have bought 40 Heron Mk2 UAVs (unarmed).

That would cover the immediate requirement of surveillance along Indo-Tibet border.

I am not against import. Spend money where it's reasonable.
