EX-AGNIVEERS TO DRIVE MAKE-IN-INDIA MANUFACTURING REVOLUTION

Ex-Agniveers will be driving the Make-in-India manufacturing revolution. In military training and during service, recruits are introduced to state-of-the-art technology. Some military technologies are directly and others after modification are used for civilian applications. One of the objectives of Agnipath scheme is to create an army of technologists and inventors. The Agnipath scheme was modelled on Israeli army veterans driving innovation in Israeli industries. After their stint in military, ex-Agniveers would be equipped with technological knowledge that no engineering college can provide. Technological start-ups would start mushrooming once the first batch of Agniveers are relieved from service in 2026. Year 2026 would be the tipping point.

Once the Make-in-India Atmanirbhar movement gains momentum, American investors would arrive in India in great numbers. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam had said something to the effect that, "Americans offer any technology only when the recipient country is on the verge of perfecting that technology."
Are we to assume before Agniveer , previous recruits had absolutely no technical expertise or sub standard knowledge ?

The first lot of Agniveers must've been honourably discharged , hence this puff piece . Would be interesting to see if the specified 25% were retained or more or less ? Would also be interesting to see how many Agniveers are absorbed into CAPFs & police forces across the country?

This defeats the purpose of the Agniveer program. After a certain age, they won't be able to go to college, get a degree, and build a better life. Basic training is not difficult; every mature nation with conscription operates in this manner. We dont lack human resources. Army is not an employment generation program.

I would go so far as to say that the recruitment age should be lowered to 16 , candidates for special tasks identified during basic training so that they receive specialised training for another 6-8 months before being deployed in peace time locations preceding their deployment on the LoC & LAC.

The upper limit can be extended to 22 or 23 years of age. A minimum of 50% must be retained & in special cases that requirement can be relaxed to take in more if need be .

Since this is WiP ( Work in Progress ) it'd take at least another decade if not more for thoughts to crystallise & policies framed.

Why is this important ? For modern warfare is more about technology than ever . You can't exactly expect a new recruit especially at that age with his background to absorb everything or most in a few months & turn professional at it for the next couple of years he's contracted for .

Hence the term must be extended to a minimum of 6 years to a maximum of 8 years such that a 16 year old spends 2 years in basic & advanced training plus an internship as it were to hone his skills in a peacetime setting before being deployed for the real deal.

Since expertise is a function of experience with more of the latter always being good to further hone these skills it's imperative the contract be extended between 6-8 years from the 4 years at present.

Further & this has been a long standing proposal , the remaining 50% or the overwhelming majority of those let off at the end of the contractual tenure ought to be absorbed into the CAPFs & other such bodies thru legislative intervention vide a quota.

I'd also expect the same piece of legislation to include a provision for absorption of some of these Agniveers thru a quota in the state police in the states they hail from.

This way all that you've spent on training these personnel can be productively utilised & the amount for training expended in those prospective employer organisations can be effectively deployed towards some other usage.

There can be no comparison with earlier recruitments. The 21st century wars are a different ball game. It is not about numbers by which we won 1965,1971 and probably 1999 wars. Contactless warfare in the digital era means that future wars will be fought with artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, stand-off weapons, cyber space and space-based ISR (Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance) playing a key role. Recruits need to be tech-savy. It wasn't the case before. That's why there was no written test for army recruitment till Agnipath scheme was introduced.

Yup. I can see that happening in Ukraine such that there are hardly any soldiers on the frontline as per latest reports only drones & tanks & aerial vehicles be it FAs or hptrs.

I think you need to read up more on what were the procedures for recruitment earlier before the Agniveer system was implemented.

Written tests were very much part of the recruitment pattern except the order was different under the previous recruitment system.
