LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

With the Nasik plant being operationalized, we will have a production capacity of 24. By subcontracting to Alpha, TATA, and L&T, we expect to add 6 more to the annual production capacity.

Expect to reach 30 per year in two years. GE expects to deliver 12 404 this year and two per month next year.

Almost all fighter mission computer software is still written in Ada after 40 years!
I mean C C++ still used despite being from the 1970s. Iirc JF17 stuff was written in C++ 🤣. Paks didn't have ppl well versed in Ada by the looks of it. Maybe Rust may complement Ada in the near future who knows but probably not because one of the reasons why militaries use Ada is because of its obscurity from the mainstream. I can count the number of undergrads who I've met and who know about the existence of Ada in two or three fingers. I can bet a lot that F47 and J36/J50 also used Ada.

I see no problem in using c++ , it still used for high performance tasks.
Its still updated so no issues with security as long as you get great software engineers.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has received the first indigenously developed, private sector manufactured ICS compatible Center fuselage of LCA #Tejas Mk1A from the VEM Technologies.

No journo would ever ask them about the timeline skipping either for fear of losing access and never given any interview/news in future. Ultimately its the human factor that decide the course. If multiple media point out this simultaneously HAL will be forced to release a clarification thru stock exchange denying that while keeping ambiguity citing business secret.
Either way, DK Sunil is getting some heat for work of his predecessor mostly.

Correct, you can also see this behavior with journalists who have access to DRDO folks. Its always praise. Especially the new bread of hindi first journo like the ANI guy. Absolute lack of depth and the job fully depends on access.

On the old forum, Shiv Aroor did an AMA as part of his book launch. Everyone made fun of him because he didn't know that the Rafale lacked proper IRST at that time. Standards were different back then. Most of the new journalists do not know the difference between a mortar and a howitzer.

This is such a mess.

In a blow to indigenisation, HAL has opted for foreign technology, jettisoning DRDO's radar and Electronic Warfare equipment for the LCA Mk1A jets

HAL didn't provide suitable platform to DRDO for testing indigenous EW suite on time. Thus DRDO couldn't certify the EW suite. Basically it's HAL being HAL and then pushing blame onto others. CEMILAC won't certify those unless those are tested on a proper Tejas Mk1A platform with all the subsystem including weapon package. And we all remember, the prototypes of Mk1A had half baked subsystems and weapon package during Aero India.

The second lot of 43 MK1A is so far away

First let us get the First batch of 40 MK 1 A

For example we have had so many batches of SU 30

Nobody outside the IAF knows which plane has which version of BARS radar or EW suite

Secondly we will have another batch of 97 MK 1A coming up

And if we can get GAN Uttam by then then what is the problem if we install 2052 AESA and SCORPIUS jammer in the first 83 MK 1A

The first 83 can be upgraded at a later date

Tbh I don't really understand the point of going for ELTA for the last 43 Tejas Mk1A of first batch of order. Because by the time they deliver the first 40 aircraft. Indigenous EW suite would have been certified. It will take them atleast 2 and half year to deliver first 40 aircrafts. And SVK can be certified in the meantime. Uttam is already certified by CEMILAC. That is precisely why DRDO is offering HAL an alternative solution of Uttam + Israeli EW. Why not test mating both system once? Let's see if it works or not? They have two years for even that.
