We will seize all 6 rivers': Bilawal Bhutto says India’s Indus water cutoff is call for another war

Updated Jun 22, 2025 10:30 AM IST

Home Minister Amit Shah declared the treaty “will never be restored” and announced that water previously flowing into Pakistan would be rerouted to Indian states like Rajasthan via new canal infrastructure.

Bhutto has framed the issue as existential, calling water “a red line” and warning that India’s actions amount to a declaration of war.

India’s decision to choke off Pakistan’s Indus water supply has ignited full-blown war talk in Islamabad with former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari threatening to “seize all six rivers” if the treaty isn’t restored.

“India has only two options: agree to the Indus Water Treaty, or Pakistan will another wage war,” Bhutto warned in public address.

The rhetoric follows India’s abrupt suspension of its participation in the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty after a deadly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam killed 26 civilians.

Home Minister Amit Shah declared the treaty “will never be restored” and announced that water previously flowing into Pakistan would be rerouted to Indian states like Rajasthan via new canal infrastructure. “Pakistan has been receiving this water unjustly,” Shah said.

The move has already slashed water flow to Pakistan by nearly 20%, according to officials. Dams are hitting “dead levels,” and the agricultural sector is bearing the brunt.

Bhutto has framed the issue as existential, calling water “a red line” and warning that India’s actions amount to a declaration of war. “We are the true custodians of the Indus civilisation, and we will defend it,” he said.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry echoed the threat, calling India’s move a “brazen violation” of international law and a “dangerous precedent.” Legal action is being considered, but so far international actors have remained silent.

With India pushing ahead on its canal plans and Islamabad warning of military consequences, the Indus — once a symbol of post-colonial cooperation — is now a potential flashpoint

This loudmouth has dual nationalities. He can only make loud noise for political gains, that's it. IWT is a flash point, but it will take time.

This is the best part. In Iran the current regime - the clerics - lay claim to all that the Persians have achieved over thousands of years. Quite the scheme these guys run.

If they attack first through any means conventional or terrorist, even intervention from Orange man won't save them.
The one thing this conflict established is that both the JeM and LeT got tied to their army. Now, any strike against India whether by proxy or the aand forces themselves will result in immediate retaliation. However, people will still come forward to save them when the water reaches the neck level.

Their want for water will become their nightmare as Indian Navy will completely crush their Navy and blockade them. If Pakistan acquires DF ZF it may pose a threat to our Navy however, DF ZF needs advanced guidance from radar and satellites to accurately hit ships which means Chinese satellites need to be in the vicinity. India must undertake an anti sat programme focusing on soft kill methods such as ground to space lasers, space to space lasers, EW and jamming to disrupt Chinese space support to Pakistan. Another way to blunt DF ZF threat is make our ships fire standoff cruise missiles from protective cover of land based AD AH and Kusha systems.

Honestly - I'm trying to be open here to give a balanced view, BUT since ALAN WAKES is a group editor, we can expect more of this
Bruh they included AK Bharti's statement but didn't include the Dassault aviation official's statement? + There are clear proof of missiles hitting radars and military trucks along with the AEW&Cs, how are they claiming Scalp eg missed their targets? No mention of 4 PAF official's death along with an high ranking officer's death from the missiles?

No mention of drone strikes from Pakistan and it's successful interception and no mention of Fateh missile being intercepted?

No mention of the failed Pakistani retaliation after the A2G missile attack from India? Lol. Who is this Alan wakes guy?

Forget about Alan. This is their version. The PAF has provided all the information. Read, digest, and think about the gaps that were there or you believe as per the data available to you. Then throw the rest of the data away as it is pure fiction or half truths.

Alan Wakes is the PAF EXCLUSIVE and favourite Western defence journalist! PAF gives all access to him, and in return, HE ALWAYS and I'm mean ALWAYS gives a very biased and MORE favourable review of the PAF. Heck! all articles and books on PAF - he has written most of them

I have read his articles for a very long time, so when I say 'Alan wakes' wrote it - then know it will be a very one-sided

I am looking forward to the day when the IAF puts out their version of the OP Sindoor. Also, I hope that comes sooner than later. By putting OP Sindoor on standby we have pretty much sealed away all the information concerning it that should be given by our officials. Whether this is good or bad in the long run time will tell.

The stronger the propaganda the more cover up was done. I watched for years as Iranian state controlled Telegram groups and twitter based accounts did a lot of chest thumping. The Iranians harped to the world how they controlled Middle East and how the Israelis and the mighty Americans would be humbled. We are watching with our own eyes as the Mullahs of Iran hide in bunkers as their capital and western provinces are pounded by upto 200 strikes in 36-48 hrs. The Pakistanis who still claim they did not loose 71' completely will put their blood and bones into propaganda. You already denied them the use of Nukes.

There are many constraints that India has had and continues to have. From Bureaucracy to things like Power Projection, Defence Procurement etc. Inspite of that I would still say that I was satisfied with the way the IAF concluded the op. People here forget how many countries ran cover for Pakistan diplomatically leaning on India to tone it down. A few are in the open but many are yet unnamed.

Unfortunately, I disagree with the government. This era will have war. The path to peace is paved by war and long bouts of peace are followed by war. Indians need to have a greater bandwidth to handle ups and downs. If you strike, prepare to be struck. You are not invincible, no one is. There are no golden weapons, only good weapons.

The Nobel Peace prize nominating country has already found itself in hot water of late. Everyone now understands how they operate. I will not comment on that.

Now, let's try to be at least half decent armchair generals. The ones fighting on the borders are still in the game. What are you fussing about.

(As I write this I feel it is very cheesy and does not suit my taste but meh...).

I think with all the recent developments we have already crossed the point of no return. A big war is up by 2030. Most probably a couple of years earlier but not later. And general public also need to prepare for that. All now left to see is the islamic caliphate (probably pakistan excluded ) come together in support for Iran. That should trigger the big war.

Some parts laughable, some parts accurate. IAF needs AWACS and EW aircraft ASAP. And also next time ffs can we please take down that Dassault 20 and SAAB Eriye using Astras and Meteors? We have the assets for BVRM conflict, but we should not hold ourselves to shifty ROEs drafted by lameduck Babus or even IAF.

Always good to see some testosterone in a body full of oestrogen.

Alhamdulillah!

This is true, but after losing 20% of their air assets they will not that soon, imminent threat is China. This Op Midnight Hammer was just a copy of OP Sindoor. This is why India spoke to Iran, to intervene and convince for cease fire. Modi should be nominated for Nobel Peace prize.

China won't fight us directly for now most likely (touchewood). They will continue to use Pakistan to annoy us and bog us down, shift our attention from building infrastructure along LaC as well as stymie our economic growth. Their latest enhancement of Pakistani airpower through KJ500, J35 is an obvious attempt to get India to spend more money on air power rather than the Navy or Army. They are concerned about Indian Navy's capability to control chokepoints in IOR, they will seek to divert us from investing in our Navy so that by the time PLAN Nuclear CBG enters IOR in 2035/2040, IN will be at significant disadvantage due to limited funding.

In that vein, they will push Pakistan for another conflict with India very soon after Pakistan gets J35, KJ500, HQ19, and DF ZF vehicle. MSS involvement in current Pahalgam attack and future potential attacks must be closely analyzed by RAW. India must focus on increasing economic and industrial growth, and use that growth to put more money across all 3 domains of our armed forces as well as strategic sectors such as semiconductor manufacturing, rare Earth metals processing, etc.

The dragon wants to become the master of Asia, and this includes South Asia. Bharat must ensure this never happens.

IWT suspension is one step which will cause chain reaction and it's a calculative move. So you can imagine what India's preparation will be to tackle such threat. India is already waiting.

Not just Pehalgam but also Pulwama. But you are right about rare Earth minerals and their supply chain. The air routes need to be secured as well.
