Another paper on the conflict is out.

Summarised using Claude Sonnet (4):

Based on my analysis of the Stimson Center webpage, here's a comprehensive breakdown of the salient points and key aspects:

Salient Points:

Crisis Overview

  • The document analyzes a recent India-Pakistan military crisis that occurred from May 7-10, 2025 (referred to as the "Four-Day Conflict")
  • This was the most significant crisis between the two nuclear-armed nations in several decades
  • The crisis began following a terrorist attack on April 22, which prompted India to launch punitive strikes on Pakistan on May 7

Military Firsts and Escalation

The conflict marked several unprecedented military developments:

  1. First use of cruise missiles by India against Pakistan:
    • BrahMos cruise missile (co-developed with Russia)
    • European SCALP-EG missiles
  2. First use of conventionally armed short-range ballistic missiles by Pakistan against India:
    • Fatah-I and Fatah-II missiles
    • Possibly other missile types
  3. First instance of drone warfare between the two nations with intent to cause damage

Military Assessment

  • India demonstrated precise standoff attack capabilities across large areas of Pakistan, particularly on May 7 and 10
  • Pakistan showed vulnerability to Indian air attacks, though Pakistani air defenses intercepted some strikes
  • No manned aircraft crossed into either country's airspace, indicating both sides' respect for each other's air defense capabilities
  • India likely lost several aircraft to Pakistani counterair operations on May 7
  • Pakistan's drone attacks (May 8-10) were largely defeated by India's integrated air and missile defense system
  • Most casualties occurred along the Line of Control in Kashmir through ground fighting

Key Aspects the Document Focuses On:

1.

  • The crisis generated unprecedented levels of mis- and disinformation
  • Both sides declared victory amid considerable misinformation
  • The document emphasizes the challenge of establishing factual narratives due to severe data limitation problems

2.

  • Analysis of new weapons systems employed
  • Assessment of air defense effectiveness
  • Evaluation of standoff attack capabilities

3.

  • Geographic reach of military operations
  • Threshold-crossing in terms of systems employed
  • Impact assessment of military actions

4.

  • Significant diplomatic engagement, primarily by the United States
  • Role of international actors in crisis resolution

5.

  • The India-Pakistan relationship remains crisis-prone
  • Future crises are likely to escalate in severity over time
  • The mutual possession of nuclear weapons heavily influences crisis dynamics

6.

  • The document serves as an early assessment based on available evidence
  • Acknowledges that understanding will evolve as more information becomes available
  • Emphasizes the importance of building shared understanding of the conflict
This working paper represents a scholarly attempt to provide an objective, evidence-based analysis of a significant regional security crisis while acknowledging the limitations imposed by information warfare and restricted access to reliable data.

Wait for official confirmation.... I bet many of these media channels highly placed sources are from forum like these & WhatsApp group only......... S-400 shot down something big over Pakistani airspace & there was in all likelihood something inside this hanger.

That thing look like a F-16 to me.

Would be incredible if it turned out that an active radar homing 40N6 interceptor took out Pak DA-20 airborne jammer. That too at an extreme range. S-400 must have solid eccm capabilities.

don't think that is an F-16 just debris and low-res of the pic available to civilian sats might make it difficult to get fine details sorted out, but SAR images of it might have been taken already and there are other ways like HUMINT, SIGINT etc to know.
For AWACS thing our Radars might have its signature mapped even before and they tracked it going inside the hangar according to hukums tweet with call sign Overlord🤣 or something, it most definitely got offed unless pakees say the sqdr ldr usman and his crew were re-enacting ottoman group circle painting in an empty hangar in the middle of conflict.

Something big went down at Dinga for sure..... Fire was massive & spread over a big area.

I was one who said counting crashes was irrelevant in the larger scheme of things (achieving our objective of hitting terror infrastructure and
responding to Pak's reaction). We lost 3 aircraft in Kargil, all due to tactical errors. Were they relevant ?
Yes all are relevant.

527 men lost their lives during the Kargil War. Is that also irrelevant information to you about Kargil?

No one is denying that the overall objective was achieved. We need to critically look at the details and shortcomings so that we can improve ourselves for the next conflict.
