LCA AF Mk2 (Medium Weight Fighter) - News and discussions

That statement was based upon the specs/avionics/EW we've planned for MK2. Of course, since we already have Rafale operational while MK2 still being a paper plane makes the point moot, but still🤷‍♂️.

In fact, I would say that specs of MK2 are even more advance than what Dassault has planned for Rafale F4.2/3. Only from F5 version onwards, Rafale will reach MK2 levels of avionics.

There can not be any batter news than that if true. Please elaborate. I am awaiting for MWF with 75/125 KN engine with TVC and frontal stealth. That will make MWF super MWF.

Normal ppl have been watching too many "Top Gun" type movies and shows where they think dogfighting = entire war. Of course air power is essentially but to base entire analysis on one aspect of the entire conflict is silly.

Tejas Mk2 can confront even J16??? Waw 😍. But of course we need far more extensive AWACS support than we have currently. More importantly we NEED to link Astra Mk2 with Netra AWACS. Somehow this must be done imo.
Here is the official confirmation of initial Uttam MK2 prototype using same 912 GaAs TRMs like that of MK1A(only packaging is different because of smaller nose cone of MK2):

PS: In the later production batches, we most definitely will switch to GaN, as this tech is now mature enough for military use.

What type of trm will be used in MKI AESA radar from begening?

Yeah, I dunno why people at the air show pushed the GaN story for Uttam when we already knew it was still in development.

Alpha Defense has come out with a video saying that as per some conference leaks, the production radar would have GaN. Let's see.

@marich01, any idea what AD is saying in the above video(re phone/conference confirmation of MK2 having GaN modules?)

PS: With GaAs Uttam, MK2 won't be as advance as Rafale as we were previously anticipating. So 2-engined MRFA contest remains open, IMO.

India eyes partnership with France's Safran to power next-gen Tejas Mk2 jets

India is exploring the possibility of a potential partnership with French aerospace and defence major Safran to enhance its engine-making capabilities for Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft and to develop engines for its next-generation Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-2 fighter jets, top defence sources have told Moneycontrol.

US defence major GE Aerospace is currently supplying F404-IN20 engines for Tejas MK-1 fighter jets to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). However, there have been hurdles in the supply, which have delayed timelines for Indian Air Force's plans to augment its fighter squadrons. In a significant move, India is now looking for all available options to speed up its indigenous fighter production rate. As part of this effort, it is exploring partnering with Safran to enhance indigenous fighter jet engine-making capabilities.

Guess there's been a rapid loss of trust in the US. Or just a bargaining chip.

The French have a 11T engine meant for SCAF, we can use this engine on Mk2 and AMCA. And they now have a 9T engine for Rafale F5 too, which can replace the F404 on Mk1A, atleast from the second batch of 97 onwards.

It's good that the ADA/IAF are looking at other options. Finally.

It's an ominous sign for those who think India will/should procure F-35.

Is it possible to Fit Safran M88 in Tejas MK 2

We might have realised that GE will not transfer technology

So DRDO will make a few prototypes with 414 and then move on to Safran

ADA said they don't care about Kaveri K10 for LCA Mk2, it will bring in unnecessary delays. IAF agreed with ADA. Plus we wanted all that new manufacturing tech from America, built by HAL, a very powerful lobby. All these delays were getting in the way of HAL getting the "Maharatna" status. Everything else was a waste of time. Pretty much the same reason why F404 replacement for Mk1A also died.
