S-400 'Triumf' News & Discussion

Licensed production in India is the way forward
DRDO is reportedly set to start Kusha trials by next year. So we may not need any more S-400s beyond the 5 currently on order. Russia is yet to deliver 2 systems out of those. But there's no question that S-400 is worth its weight in gold.

Wonder what this poster has to say now that we've asked for more S-400 systems from Russia, lol.
I've been wanting for IAF to order extra S-400 units since long but with TOT & Local production. Glad that they're about to do that. JV of S-500/550 and FGFA(yes, again!) should be explored too.

We can have both..... Delivery lapse has more to do with war in Ukraine. That's why we should negotiate for local manufacturing.

Its not extra systems, rather the extra missiles to replenish the stock and keep a larger one. This makes more sense. We are yet to receive 2 more units right ? or 1 more was delivered in 2024-25 can not remember? Even sending the missiles due with the rest 1-2 units earlier than the firing units would be ok for now.

Absolutely. This combo of Indo-Russian air-defence has proven to be hard nut to crack for our adversary. So such amalgamation shall continue in future too with us deploying both S-400s & Kusha in huge number all-across our border.

Even in that case local production of its missiles can solve the issue for us.

Technology always evolves, so in the future you will have better technologies to counter Brahmos. We should work on hypersonic A2G and G2G similar to the BrahMos missile for all types of platforms. Then only we will keep the edge over our adversaries.

No we need the s-400 in more numbers. We can't buy piecemeals of everything. We need local production of stuff we are importing. That's why we need to buy more rafales, more su-30mki. Buy second hand mirage 2000 and mig 29 and create local supply chain to create a second industry. We need to license produce the buk M2 and the pantsir S1.

Nope. We need our desi alternatives. Our systems have already proven their mattel so no need of only relying on foreign gold plated systems. Remember it is always about how many systems you can replace quickly if one goes down in case of war.

We need both desi alternatives and foreign alternatives and then russian alternatives. We need foreign tech as well as develo desi tech.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited an Indian military base near the border with Pakistan, where he posed for a photo in front of the S-400 Triumph air defense system purchased from Russia. According to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian S-400 air defense missile systems, as well as other combat systems, played a key role during Operation Sindoor. Let me remind you that India used S-400 Triumph air defense systems in the confrontation with Pakistan on May 8. In 2018, India signed an agreement to purchase five divisions of S-400 air defense systems for $ 5.43 billion. The first S-400 air defense missile system received from Russia was deployed in the state of Punjab on the border with Pakistan in 2021

Kusha is unlikely to be in competition with the S-400.

Kusha could get plugged in with other MRSAM and Akash NG batteries considering all of them use the same missiles, while S-400 could be its own system, so the IAF can increase the ADS mass of the airbase by joining the S-400 squadrons up.

The next order of S-400 too is bound to get upgrades.

Attaching all S-400 squadrons with BMD radars could enable full BMD role too, while the same can be done with Kusha and the Indian BMD. This would give us two suppliers.

The stated IAF requirement was for 12 squadrons of S-400. After having bought 5, Kusha is aimed at filling the rest. Buying more S-400s would mean fewer orders for Kusha which will have more advance radar, C4I and ECCM based on decades of work on BMD/ASAT. All Indian IP.

The S-400 has indeed done a good job against Pak. But let's not forget that China knows the system inside out. It has been operating the S-300PMU and S-400 series for decades now.

We've already spent billions on co-developing MRSAM with the Israelis. We now have multiple RF/IR seekers (including from the pvt sector) and proven dual pulse motor tech. It's time to build on those incrementally via Akash-NG/Kusha. Why subsidize a Russian supply chain (that supports China and Turkey) when there's an indigenous alternative available?

Yeas people here are like desi boy fantasies about white lady in screen. Its a collective effort from Akash, Barak & that aged Bofors gun during engagement, we don't even sure s400 missiles are used or not. But fanboy wants only s400.

Technology wise if you want similar to Brahmos but in hypersonic regime , then a scramjet propulsion / augmented ramjet / dual mode ramjet are your option. All of these are likely at play in our future projects. Brahmos is liquid fuel ramjet tech and the fuel is hydrocarbon so in similar tech domain for hypersonic propulsion you go with a scramjet ie HCM program. You also have this mach 5 Brahmos which is augmenting the current ramjet being operated at a higher mach number with a better grade kerosene that delivers better Isp. For the air launched version they have the dual mode ramjet in mind & Hellbent sir had an old infographic on it.

So each one you mentioned are in the work for more than a decade already.
