LCA AF Mk2 (Medium Weight Fighter) - News and discussions

Empty Rafale weight : 9.9 tons.
Empty EF2000 weight : 11.5 tons.

60/49 = 1.22 11,5 / 9,9 = 1.16 The difference is tight.

Aerodynamic of Rafale is better.

if landing gears are yet to be manufactured and we also see iron bird testing i doubt we will see ground testing or rolling out of mk2 by 2025, or even first quarter of 2026 seems non possibility,
again babus are giving us time lines that are not possible.

These timelines were given by ADA not MoD.

Can't wait for its first flight😃

Yes, From whatever I have read and heard on open forum, MWF is going to be a very potent aircraft. This will enable us to dominate each and every Plane in Pakistan inventory and most of the Planes in Chinese inventory. We have just chosen Rafale for navy and likely to choose the same for Airforce. This is in spite of the offer of Su57 and F35. This shows that India is not much concern about J 20 and J35 of China. Had that been a case, we would have chosen F35 or Su57. It seems that IAF is convince that we can handle Chinese fifth generation jet with Rafale and MWF combo and no more fifth generation plane is required till AMCA arrives. Had we had MWF in hand today, we could have managed without additional order of MMRCA. We should ensure that it comes latest by 2028 and 24 are added every years subsequent to that. Start Collecting all critical components right from today so that we may not phase delay and no SOS situation arises.

I can bat that it will not come this year.

Exclusive | India hopes to launch F414 jet engine manufacturing line this year: Defence Secretary Rajesh Singh

India hopes to launch the domestic manufacturing line for General Electric’s F414 jet engines by the end of this year, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18. The development is critical for the timely production of the indigenous Tejas Mark 2 fighter aircraft.

When asked about the status of negotiations between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and General Electric (GE), Singh said, "This year? I hope so. This is being led by HAL. We don't get into the nitty gritty of that negotiation, but on our part, we've been asking both players, as well as HAL, to try and expedite this so that our production schedule for the future Tejas—I think it's Mark 2—doesn't get affected.”
“So yes, that is something that we are nudging from our side, but the nitty gritty of the negotiations we are leaving to these two agencies,” he added.

The government is closely tracking the price negotiations between HAL and GE and encouraging both parties to speed up the process, given the strategic importance of the Tejas programme and the wider goal of strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.

The F414 engine is a key component for the Tejas Mark 2, an upgraded version of India's indigenous fighter jet. The ongoing deal with GE is expected to involve technology transfer and pave the way for local production, furthering India's long-term goal of strategic autonomy in aerospace.

While the F414 engine will address near-term requirements through technology transfer and local assembly, Singh also reiterated that India’s long-term focus remains clear: the country wants full indigenous intellectual property rights (IPR) in aero engine manufacturing.

While Singh did not provide a specific timeline, the Defence Ministry’s push to expedite the process underscores the urgency of maintaining momentum in critical defence programmes and the broader push toward an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

It's LCA Mk2, actually this picture is Old and was only for HAL internal use only and wasn't supposed to be in public domain...😕
But now that it's in public domain would like to tell that LCA Mk2 assembly is in final stage of its completion and will be rolled out soon and will have first flight this year itself.... 😊
IMPOSSBILE. THEY ARE STILL RELEASING VARIOUS TENDERS.
LOTS OF WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Wait for year end surprise cause that Foto is almost a year old , I think July or August 2024 if my source is correct...😊
Even AMCA prototype will come before the declared dates. Some says it's being readied for coupling which means 2yrs before roll out.
HAL is in Beast mode now. From next year ie 2026 GE will supply 2 GE404 Per month and HAL will be supplying 2 LCA mk1a per month...

Let's not get carried away with one photo, knowing HAL, it always manages to mess these timelines in one way or the other...
