NEW DELHI: The IAF is all set to launch its major pan-India exercise called “GaganShakti” to hone its war-fighting skills and test both its offensive and defensive capabilities on the western front with Pakistan and eastern one with China.

The high-voltage exercise from April 8 to 22 will witness over 1,100 different types of aircraft, helicopters and drones, ranging from fighters like Sukhoi-30MKIs and Mirage-2000s to force-multipliers like IL-78 mid-air refuellers and Phalcon AWACS (airborne warning and control systems), take to the skies to test IAF’s two-front deployment capability.

The aim of the exercise is to validate IAF’s full-spectrum capability, with real time coordination, deployment and employment of air power in a short and intense battle scenario. “Concepts of accelerated operations, network-centric operations, long range missions with concentrated weapon releases across all air to ground ranges in India and inter-valley troop transfer as well as joint operations with the Navy and Army will all be validated,” said IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Anupam Bannerjee.

“It is for the first time that the efficacy and integration of the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft in the operational matrix of IAF is planned. IAF’s logistics stamina and ability to sustain continuous operations through day and night would be put to test,” he added.

Interesting to note the magnitude of the exercise, along with simultaneous forward staging of troops in the Northern Front and North East on an upgraded level as part of 'Op-Alert' and at least one of the Strike Corps heading for it's mobilisation practices.

Sir. I can neither confirm nor deny the piece of information you seek.

However, I can, in my limited capacity, confirm the accuracy of the comments I have included into the piece. The piecemeal mobilization of the assets of at least one strike corps, along with the posturing of the pivot corps as part of the desert exercise, in tandem with naval and this proposed pan-Indian air exercise is - exciting.

I got my answer and your broad hint .Is it what we think it is ? Is the summer going to be hotter than usual ?

Most of the equipments will be foreing ones. Which means world will watch India Pak China fighting eachother like fools instead of developing the society.

Conclusion: let us not have the exercise. Let us indent, buy and deploy the equipment and never test it out, alone or in conjunction with other equipment and in formation manoeuvres.

Very logical.

those are already tested many times lol

You need to read the news carefully.

What was done with different equipment, with different organisations, with different military objectives cannot be extrapolated to these conditions. Your criticism was just plain silly, childish.

those who have developed the equipments they would have tested long ago. If you want to syncronize a AWACS built in US with let's say Mig 29, the americans would have tested long ago so the Russians too.
They don't really tell in open but it's an ongoing process for the developers.

The only great thing that would happen is syncronization of Tejas with rest of the IAF fleet.

WOULD have? Who gave you that gem of information? Neither knew until each got their hands on the other's equipment; the Russians still don't know all the insides of an American AWACS; thanks to the re-uniting of Germany, the East German MiG 29s are open to NATO inspection and testing, but not otherwise. The German Luftwaffe actually has an operating squadron of MiG 29s that they use to train other friendly pilots, so that those others can face them in battle if the occasion arises.

Right. They only tell a selected audience of conspiracy theory specialists. Who then tell the rest of us in strictest confidence. I've run out of face-palms. Can you change to specialising in the cooking of mussels? You will earn the undying gratitude of a large number of defence information specialists and analysts.

If you say so. Clearly, nobody else knows Jack Squat about the matter.

Every one is not like India that they will be caught with their pants down they know about eachother's equipment beforehand. ;)

Their laws, their inventions their developments their people if they wouldn't know who else would.

Very interesting.... This could be the first time where we are testing our potential to defend the so called "Two Front War".... Kudos to them, to plan something like this and prepare for the same looking at the short falls.......

Understand the point.... It is not about equipment testing, which any way would have been tested extensively before inducting....... the exercise is about using them on different conditions, and on different scenarios...... I guess it is not that difficult to understand....

You can't help someone who is determined to be dense.
