India-EU Relations.

One billion jobs? That's 70 jobs created per person in the EFTA. All of them, including babies and the elderly, are supposed to create 70 Indian jobs thanks to this agreement. That also means that 70% of the total population of India -- not just the working population, mind you, but the total population, including babies and the elderly -- will work for the EFTA.

Now if they had said million, that would be much more reasonable and might even be somewhat believable, even if optimistic.

“We had the pleasure of speaking with Prime Minister @narendramodi. We warmly welcome India’s continued engagement with President Zelenskyy,” von der Leyen said in a post on X.

Giving details of the telephonic conversation, the EU chief said that “India has an important role to play in bringing Russia to end its war of aggression and helping create a path towards peace.”

She called the conflict a global concern, “This war carries global security consequences and undermines economic stability. So it is a risk to the entire world,” the post added.

India’s trade negotiations with the European Union have entered a decisive stage in Brussels. Officials say Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will travel later this month for what’s being described as the final round of talks. The focus remains on key issues like rules of origin, tariff flexibility, and market access across goods, services, and investments. Both sides are working to seal the free trade deal by the end of the year, potentially marking one of India’s most comprehensive FTAs ever.

A good interview. Firstpost did a decent job with this one. The full interview is on their YouTube channel.
