I thought we already mastered this technology & are on our way to develop the SCRAMJET within 6-7 yrs. What's he talking about ?
Our LFRJ STAR is yet to make enough ground to be put into a missile yet. Frankly I think other mission mode projects like BMD, astra vlsrsam vshorads ngarm etc got priority & STAR SFDR etc are a bit sidelined now. DRDO did say they have shortage of manpower (6913 currently vs sanctioned 7700 scientists level) so projects are taken by priority basis.
So going by the T/L he's put out we'd be mastering both the RAMJET & SCRAMJET technologies around the same time .
SFDR can't be sidelined. It's vital for our air dominance. If this news is true then it's absolutely pathetic. Only reason I may think for delay of this high-level JV could be Russia-Ukraine war. Maybe Russian help is required to move this project at a fast pace. Last I heard, literally all ground tests were done and they were preparing for flight trials. The delay news is absolutely heart-breaking if true
Akash missile uses solid fuel ramjet and we've mastered the tech. No reason why we can't master the liquid fueled ones. Maybe we're just respecting the terms of the JV. Nothing more, nothing less.
their TL is like accelerating brahmos itself, almost certainly several years on the extended side. But heard from people who had good discussion with them during defexpo and according to them the NG version is targeted for 2024 at the earliest.
Not wholly sidelined, rather the intensity of the tests will be low, compared to systems like vshorads mpatgm etc which are of higher priority to the user and will see relatively frequent testing.SFDR can't be sidelined. BrahMos Aerospace is also working on a lighter version of the Brahmos missile, dubbed BrahMos NG (new generation); the missile is undergoing development and could have its maiden test flight by 2024-end, he said.

Ministry of Defence, on March 30, 2023, inked a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for procurement of Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long range) {NGMMCB (LR)} and BrahMos Missiles at an approximate cost of over Rs 1,700 crore under Buy (Indian) Category. The delivery of NGMMCBs is scheduled to commence from 2027. These systems will be equipped with supersonic BrahMos Missiles and will significantly enhance multi-directional maritime strike capability of Indian Navy.
The BAPL is a Joint Venture between India and Russia making crucial contribution to augment the new generation Surface-to-Surface missile with enhanced ranges. This contract is going to give further boost to indigenous production of critical weapon system and ammunition with active participation of indigenous industries. This project will generate an employment of more than 90,000 man-days over a period of four years. With the majority of the equipment and sub-system sourced from indigenous manufacturers, these systems will be a proud flag bearer of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Brahmos ramjet wasn't supposed to be developed, it was supposed to be transferred to India and built in India via full ToT, but the Russians denied the tech. They used workshare as an excuse.

Last year, CEO of BrahMos Aerospace, Atul Rane had said that it was "possible" that BrahMos-II would share some characteristics with Russia's Tsirkon missile.
"The whole world is working on a hypersonic cruise missile. The US and China are developing hypersonic versions of their cruise missiles. But they do not have them yet. I have not seen anyone in the world having hypersonic cruise missiles. Russia says it tested the Tsirkon hypersonic antiship cruise missile developed by NPO Mashinostroeniya," Rane told Russian news agency TASS last year. Rane had then stated that "technology bricks" for a hypersonic missile have been designed by both sides.
