The above news should confirm that the US and Taiwan do plan to fight China in Taiwan's defence. Makes sense considering the US will get sucked into a war with China when they attack the Senkaku Islands anyway. It's better to stop the enemy over Taiwan rather than having to fight a Chinese-controlled Taiwan at that point. Taiwan's geographic location is also very important since it blocks the Chinese from directly accessing the Pacific.
The Japanese govt have also begun sensitising their citizens on Taiwan.

Only reason china is on the receiving side is that those idiots dont have any good allies. If those stupid mucks cut a deal with japan or korea half the work is done.
Whenever they cut and run it's only after fighting though, meaning when they start losing. Afghanistan was a long time coming. The only way to win the war in Afghanistan was through the genocide of the Taliban, which they had no interest in doing. It isn't in their interest either, since the Taliban are working against Russian and Iranian interests. The situation there is in the US's advantage.
The US has a lot to lose with the loss of Taiwan. Even if they ignore Taiwan and it falls into Chinese hands, they will be forced into a war once the Chinese start attacking Japanese islands, since the US is obligated to defend Japan. The US is not going to break a treaty.

It's about geography, ideology etc. Taiwan boxes China into a very small area. If Taiwan falls to China, then the entire Pacific Ocean opens up to them without challenge. Ideology as well, it's the only "Han" dominated area that surpasses mainland China in HDI that the CCP doesn't control. Mainland Chinese need to know about the superior quality of life a person of their own race can lead in a democracy.
Any countries like Taiwan, SoKo and Japan are worth more than all the oil and gold in the world. The US can't risk alienating them by breaking treaties. You forget that the US has fought a lot of wars for their allies after WW2 due to those treaties. They are not going to shy away from war that's protected by a treaty. One thing you can be sure of with the US is they don't break security treaties.
