Order for six conventional submarines under project P75I worth ₹43,000 crore, five new generation destroyers worth ₹50,000 crore, frigates worth ₹33,000 crore and eight corvettes worth ₹33,000 crore, make up the potential market for MDL

“At current escalated value they will roughly go to about ₹33000 crore for the four platforms. The files (for the repeat order) are floated in the Naval hierarchy and the ministry of defence (MoD),” Prasad said about the repeat order for frigates.

So, they are considering repeat orders for Project-17A.

I'm sure this has been pointed out already, but aren't these new Nilgiri "frigates" a bit under equipped for their size? They are nearly 7k tons which is basically destroyer size. Most ships of comparable tonnage are better equipped VLS wise. The closest equivalent appears to be the FREMM, which also feels under-gunned for it's displacement. Type 54 and admiral gorshkov frigates do more with less tonnage. The various Japanese destroyers of similar size are also heavily saturated with VLS cells. Is this intentional? is the IN waiting for the brahmos-ng or nirbhay?

Though I am not very accustomed to sizes but the ship seems pretty huge ? Frigates are how big normally? I mean when that video started it was almost at halfway and it kept sliding for quite a while to reach end.

The vessel is being launched with an approximate launch weight of 3510 Tons (from newspaper reports today)
Expected delivery by August 2025.
Officials said that the indigenously designed ‘Taragiri’ will have state-of-the-art weapons, sensors, an advanced action information system, an integrated platform management system, world class modular living spaces, sophisticated power distribution system and a host of other advanced features. “It will be fitted with a supersonic surface-to-surface missile system and the ship’s air defence capability is designed to counter the threat of enemy aircraft and anti-ship cruise missiles will revolve around the vertical launch and long range surface to air missile system,” they said.

India’s MDL Launches 5th Nilgiri-Class P17A Frigate

(…) Seven P17A Frigates are under various stages of construction at MDL and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). Taragiri which was launched today is the 5th frigate built by GRSE. It is named after the mountain range in the state of Uttarakhand. The 4th ship-in-class was launched by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata in July this year. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) laid the keel of the 7th and final ship in late June 2022. (…)

[This ship has been built using Integrated construction methodology which involves hull blocks construction in different geographical locations and integration/erection on Slipway at MDL. The keel of Taragiri was laid on 10 Sep 2020 and the ship is expected to be delivered by August 2025.
