GENEVA (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia, Russia and 35 other states have written to the United Nations supporting China’s policies in its western region of Xinjiang, according to a copy of the letter seen by Reuters on Friday, in contrast to strong Western criticism.
China has been accused of detaining a million Muslims and persecuting ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang, and 22 ambassadors signed a letter to the U.N. Human Rights Council this week criticising its policies.
But the letter supporting China commended what it called China’s remarkable achievements in the field of human rights.
“Faced with the grave challenge of terrorism and extremism, China has undertaken a series of counter-terrorism and deradicalisation measures in Xinjiang, including setting up vocational education and training centres,” the letter said.
The letter said security had returned to Xinjiang and the fundamental human rights of people of all ethnic groups there had been safeguarded. It added there had been no terrorist attack there for three years and people enjoyed a stronger sense of happiness, fulfilment and security.
As well as Saudi Arabia and Russia, the letter was signed by ambassadors from many African countries, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Belarus, Myanmar, the Philippines, Syria, Pakistan, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Beijing has denied any human rights violations in the region and Chinese Ambassador Xu Chen, speaking at the close of the Council’s three-week session on Friday, said China highly appreciated the support it had received from the signatories.

It will be interesting to see what many of these countries do when they realise that the Chinese have eradicated Islam from Chinese territory.

It's not the countries but the Chinese money and industry speaking. I have been talking about this since days, but people wish to ignore the fact that Chinese have invested Billions in those countries for their own good. China gives them cheap products and infrastructure, they fund the projects and what not.

And this has caused the worry for Indians as we are on verge of doing ashtang Yoga due to chinese influence in the world market which has outshined Indian selling and buying capability as well, even when it comes to textile.

The famous pashmina or cashmere is now produced rather in China than in Kashmir. Of better quality than Indian one. And they have been funding textile businesses in Bangladesh and Nepal as well. That day is not far when Chinese will be funding small business in India to promote Chinese products in India.

Who will listen to the pravachan given by India. People want jobs and Indian themselves are on high jobless rate or low income group who is going to listen to India unless until Indians appease them with loads of money and access to religious minority population.

And people of India want to counter China is merely a dream when themselves they are in true love with Chinese products.
