Russian Military Technology : Updates and Discussions

As part of the Russian exercise "Ocean-2024", sailors of the Caspian flotilla repelled an attack by a simulated enemy on an oil rig in the Caspian Sea. Russian combat swimmers and reconnaissance divers, from the detachment of underwater sabotage forces and means (PDSS), conducted reconnaissance near the strategic facility and ensured safe approach to it for the assault group to take control of the facility

@randomradio @Rajput Lion wants to know what those alleged mighty s400 were doing.
S-400 is not infallible, in fact nothing is(except the almighty Lord himself). S-400 can be saturated by drone strikes as we've seen in this conflict. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't have any tactical or strategic value.

Patriots haven't been able to stop Russian strikes as well, but we don't see you or your Yankee loving friends like @RASALGHUL questioning Western air defense? By your definition Patriorts/SAMP-Ts/IRIS-Ts etc. also must be junk?

S-400 is not infallible,

Patriots haven't been able to stop Russian strikes as well
That's what i used to tell. We waisted multi billion dollars on S400. I never said western SAMs are unbreakable ( but i will say patriot & THAAD are far superior than s400). What i said earlier & now also is we should have spend the money we spent for s400 on follow on Rafale squadrons. Two more squadrons of Rafale is far far far superior addition than the s400 we brought.
SAMs aren't effective as its makers advertising.

Because my country is not operating any of these system. Neither Pakistan or china too. Why would i bother about these systems?
On the other hand, my country sper 35k crores rupee of India on a junk SAM system, that too when my airforce is flying on rust bucket like Mig21,jags, mirages and crying for mmrca equivalent aircraft since Kargil war of 1999.

The new Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system was presented in Russia. Unlike the well-known Pantsir air defense missile and gun system, there are no 30-mm automatic cannons now. The Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system is a short-range air defense system, and is now also designed to combat UAVs, including massive air raids. The Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system was shown as a separate combat module, which can be mounted on different chassis or stationary objects. The Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system consists of a surveillance radar, a multifunctional phased radar, and an electro-optical system.

The air defense system can detect targets with an effective dispersion area of less than one square meter at a range of up to 40 km, while it can track up to 40 targets, whether it fully detects FPV drones is unknown. The Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system is equipped with two types of missiles. The 57E6E missile with a radio command control system, the range of target destruction from 1200 to 20000 meters, the altitude of target destruction from 15 meters to 15 km. The probability of hitting the target from 0.7 to 0.9. And the TKB-1055 mini missile designed to intercept drones, 4 missiles of this type can be placed in the TKB-1056 container. The TKB-1055 missile can destroy targets at a range of 500 to 7000 meters and an altitude of 15 to 5000 meters. The Pantsir-SMD-E air defense system can be equipped with a combination of 12 57E6E missiles or 48 TKB-1055 missiles.

As part of the recent Ocean-2024 exercises, a target hit by a Russian Kh-35 anti-ship missile was demonstrated. The firing was carried out by the upgraded frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov of the Russian Pacific Fleet. During the upgrade, the large anti-submarine ship Marshal Shaposhnikov of Project 1155M was reclassified as a frigate. In terms of displacement and armament, it can be considered a destroyer. The firing was carried out by a Kh-35 missile from the Uran-E ship-based missile system. The Kh-35 missile flies at an altitude of 4 to 15 meters and is capable of hitting a target, depending on the modification, at a range of up to 300 kilometers. The mass of the missile's warhead is 145 kg. According to the cost-effectiveness criterion, the Uran-E missile system is one of the best in the world.

Despite the fact that the Russian BMPT Terminator is rarely shown, the training of crews for these combat vehicles continues. Footage of training and interviews with crews are shown. During the training, servicemen improve their skills, share experience and new tactical techniques. The BMPT Terminator is designed to operate as part of tank formations to destroy enemy anti-tank weapons.

In Russia, they are completing the testing of another homemade drone with a grenade launcher, they promise that it will soon be delivered to the troops. The drone has a stabilization mode so that it is not thrown back when the grenade launcher is fired. The Russian drone is equipped with an RPG-26 grenade launcher with armor penetration of 440 mm, it will be used to destroy equipment in the upper projection, for this purpose the grenade launcher is installed at an angle of about 35 degrees. It is also supposed to install the RPO "Shmel" on the drone. The drone's carrying capacity is 12 kilograms, it is capable of rising to a height of up to 800 meters and developing a speed of up to 60 km / h. The drone's operating range is up to 30 kilometers. The approximate cost of the drone is about 600 thousand rubles or 6,500 dollars

As part of the recent Russian exercises "Ocean-2024", footage of the takeoff of four Russian anti-submarine aircraft Il-38 and Il-38N was published. The aircraft laid mines in a sea training ground. As reported, more than 50 training sea mines were dropped by parachute near Kamchatka, with their help a section of the sea coast about 10 kilometers long was blocked. The Il-38 aircraft began to be used in 1969, it was created on the basis of the Il-18V aircraft, the first Il-38 were inferior in characteristics to American aircraft. In 2001, a modernized anti-submarine aircraft Il-38N appeared, equipped with the search and targeting complex "Novella-P-38", since 2014 the Air Force received them. It is worth noting that five modernized aircraft are also used by India under the index Il-38SD. Visually, the Il-38N differs from the Il-38 by additional antennas of the all-round radar station, located above the nose of the fuselage. The Il-38N can detect air targets at a distance of up to 90 km, and surface targets - up to 320 km, there is no information about underwater targets. The maximum takeoff weight of the aircraft is 68 tons with a combat load of 6 tons. It can reach speeds of up to 650 km / h, the maximum flight altitude is 8 km. The flight range with a normal combat load reaches 6.6 thousand km. The aircraft crew is seven people.

As part of the Laros-2024 exercises, the first joint training of Russian and Laotian military personnel was held in Primorsky Krai. They were organized in preparation for the main stage of the Laros-2024 military exercises. During the exercises, the military will study the routes of tactical groups, terrain features, and also practice organizing communications between units.

The new Russian drones "Karakurt" were received for testing by servicemen of the 114th separate motorized rifle brigade. "Karakurt" is a miniature reconnaissance drone, it transmits data in real time. The drone "Karakurt" is included in the third generation military equipment "Legionnaire". The drone is used in conditions of limited space from a compact transport and launch container - a tube. The drone is designed for reconnaissance of the area and can stay in the air for up to 20 minutes, the radius of the drone's flight is up to 1 km. Due to the small size of the "Karakurt" it is difficult to notice, it has a plastic body, which makes it impossible to detect the drone with current radars.

Russian mechanics inspected and restored the Ukrainian M2A2 Bradley ODS-SA IFV produced in the USA in 2012, technical information is on the channel. The M2A2 Bradley IFV was captured in the Novosyolovka area and towed by the evacuation group. Experience in using the M2A2 Bradley IFV showed that the combat vehicle has good protection due to the use of add-on BRAT dynamic protection blocks. A Russian analogue with a similar level of protection is the BMP-3M with 4S24 dynamic protection, a link to the video is in the comments to the video. At the same time, due to its large mass, the M2A2 Bradley IFV has lower maneuverability. The M2A2 Bradley IFV has a full ammunition load, consisting of M792 high-explosive incendiary shells and M791 armor-piercing subcaliber shells. There are also cartridges for the twin 7.62 mm M240C machine gun and TOW-2B anti-tank guided missiles.

Episodes of the Russian mine-clearing vehicle BMR-3M, created on the basis of the T-90 tank. The mine-clearing vehicle BMR-3MA "Vepr" was created in 2007. The main purpose of the BMR-3M is reconnaissance, overcoming and demining of minefields. The BMR-3M is capable of making 2 tracks in anti-track minefields with a width of 800-870 mm at a speed of 40 km / h. The main difference between the BMR-3MA "Vepr" chassis and older vehicles is its enhanced anti-mine protection. To increase the level of protection against cumulative rocket-propelled grenades and ATGMs, elements of dynamic protection are installed on the BMR-3MA cabin and hull.

The Russian Black Sea Fleet has begun training to detect and destroy sea drones. It is planned to use helicopters to search for sea drones. After detecting sea drones, FPV drones will be launched from helicopters. The training has already begun, and the real effectiveness of this method is currently being assessed. FPV drones could potentially become an effective and cheap means of destroying unmanned boats.

Footage of the delivery of the German Leopard 2A6 tank to the Russian Uralvagonzavod has been published. The tank was previously used by the Ukrainian army. The plant's experts will analyze the tank's units, systems, and assemblies to assess the real military-technical level of various systems and the captured combat vehicle itself. The design of the 1,500-horsepower MB 873 Ka-501 engine and transmission will also be studied and their bench tests will be conducted. The Leopard 2A6 tank began to be produced in Germany by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann in 1997, based on the Leopard 2A5 tank. The main armament of the modernized tank is the new 120-mm smoothbore L55 tank gun from Rheinmetal with a barrel extended by 1.3 meters. The survivability of the Leopard 2A6 tank barrel is about 700 shots. Effective firing range: from a standing start - 3,500 meters, on the move - 2,500 meters. The tank received new control systems and a block with a transverse engine arrangement.

The first footage of tests of the Russian mobile air defense system "Rapira-2" has been published. The "Rapira-2" system is mounted on the AMN-590951 "Spartak" multi-purpose armored vehicle and is designed to detect, track and neutralize small air targets, including drones. The "Rapira-2" air defense system is equipped with a PKTM machine gun of 7.62 mm caliber. An electro-optical system is used to track and target drones. The system has a thermal imager, electronic warfare and a laser rangefinder. The "Rapira-3" air defense system has also been created; it is equipped, presumably, with modified 80-mm S-8 missiles; the differences between these systems are minimal. The "Rapira" air defense system is capable of detecting drones at a range of up to 20 kilometers.

Footage has been published of the Russian Navy's Il-38N anti-submarine aircraft flying past the Sapphire Princess cruise liner. The liner belongs to the American cruise line Princess Cruises. The aircraft greeted the ship's passengers by shaking its wings. Technical information about the Il-38N aircraft is available on the channel. The video was most likely filmed over the Pacific Ocean.

Russian mechanics have restored a Ukrainian Kirpi armored personnel carrier, made in Turkey. The Kirpi armored vehicle was abandoned by a Ukrainian unit in the Kursk region of Russia after three wheels were damaged. During its evacuation by the Russian 83rd separate guards airborne assault brigade, the armored vehicle was attacked by a Ukrainian drone. Mechanics have restored the Kirpi armored personnel carrier, which is now used by Russian units. The Turkish Kirpi 4x4 armored vehicle was developed by the BMS company in 2009, technical information about it is in the link to the video in the comments to the video. Kirpi armored personnel carriers are well-rated by military experts and receive positive feedback in the Ukrainian army. Ukraine has received about two hundred Kirpi 4x4 armored vehicles, the main purpose of which is to transport personnel. Several captured Kirpi armored vehicles are reportedly already being used by the Russian army.
