57-MM ZENIT ARTILLERY COMPLEX ZAK-57 DERIVATSIYA-PVO OCR Derivatsiya-PVO to create a 57-mm mobile anti-aircraft artillery complex 2S38 (index from the BINS procurement), carried out by Burevestnik Central Research Institute for Public Security № Н / 3/3 / 81-2013-ДГОЗ Identifier 1317187320792010120001160. The 57-mm artillery unit probably has the index 2А90. The development of the tracked chassis is carried out within the framework of the SCR of the ROC “Derivaciya-PVO-GSh1 ″, the co-contractor is JSC NPK Uralvagonzavod. SCR ROC "Derivation-PVO-GSH2", co-author - SKBM Armament - SCR ROC "Derivation-PVO-BPZ" - development of a multifunctional shot for a promising 57-mm mobile ZAK, is carried out by NPO Pribor. The complex of optical-electronic suppression is performed by NPO Electromashina. Development of a system for monitoring the ground environment - the executor of JSC "NTC" Alpha-M ". Supply of an optical-electronic detection and aiming system - executor of Peleng OJSC. The development of a loading machine - the creation of a modification of the chassis "Ural-4320-30" for TZM, co-executor - AZ "Ural". The development of the vehicle TZM (the chassis is provided by the customer, so the chassis of the Ural will be used) - the co-contractor - Asteys JSC. Machine repair and maintenance (MRTO) 9V9005 using chassis K5350.1-11 on the chassis "Ural-4320-1812-31". Given the low effectiveness of unguided artillery weapons when used for air targets, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise KBtochmash named after A.E. Nudelman carried out studies to assess the possibility of creating and an achievable level of characteristics of the 57-mm anti-aircraft artillery complex, taking into account the accumulated backlog in the development of controlled artillery shells (UAs ), shot from the barrel of the tank, short-range anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as proposals FSUE Central Research Institute "Burevestnik." The studies showed that a new anti-aircraft artillery complex could be created, substantially surpassing the previously developed models in almost all indicators and capable of fighting a wide class of targets, based on 57-mm UAS. During the studies, the following basic principles were used as the basis for the development of the guided artillery armament (AMC) complex for the 57 mm ZAK: • A special anti-aircraft missile is used as a high-precision weapon, which is built according to the guided artillery projectile scheme, stored in the warhead, launched from a rifled barrel guns and induced by the laser beam, which allows you to hit targets in a wide range of distances - from 200 m to 6 ... 8 km for manned targets and up to 3 ... 5 km for unmanned. • UAS is shot at a high initial speed and almost immediately has the necessary lateral accelerations for guidance. The projectile can be fired in the direction of the target or in the calculated pre-empt point. In the first case, the guidance is carried out by the method of three points. In the second case, the guidance is carried out by adjusting the projectile flight path. In both cases, the tele-orientation of the projectile in the laser beam.

• For detection, tracking of the target and guiding of the AMS, a thermal and thermal control system with automatic locking and tracking of the target, also equipped with a laser range finder and a laser guidance channel, is being developed for the upgraded Strela 10MZ (Strela-10ML). The optoelectronic control system (OESU) provides all-day and limited all-weather use of the complex, as well as the possibility of working from the spot and on the go. The OESU laser channel is equipped with a beam deflection angle. • Small UAS guidance errors are achieved due to the high accuracy of the target tracking system and the UAS laser guidance system with small errors in combination with an effective digital on-board steering control system and acceptable projectile aeroballistic and dynamic characteristics. • To solve self-defense tasks, combat lightly armored vehicles and manpower, as well as firing at air targets at short distances, the complex is also equipped with unguided ammunition. • For storing ammunition, filing and shooting, the proposed Petrel Research and Development Institute “Petrel” has an improved 57-mm artillery system based on the C-60 cannon. • The complex is located on a tracked chassis such as MTLBU or another. Glider UAS performed by the aerodynamic configuration "duck". The loading scheme and the process of firing are similar to regular ammunition, while structurally ensured the strength of the rear part of the projectile, located in the sleeve. The plumage of the projectile consists of 4 wings, laid in the sleeve. UAS combat equipment consists of a warhead and a contact-proximity radio sensor of the target in the 5-mm wavelength range. The mass of combat equipment is 2.0 kg with a mass of explosives of about 0.4 kg (corresponding to the mass of explosives of a standard 76 mm caliber artillery projectile). Single-channel steering actuator is located in the nose of the projectile and operates from the incoming air flow. The photodetector of laser radiation is located in the end part of the UAS, closed by a pallet. On the cylindrical part of the UAS there is a centering band,

The Petrel Research Institute is developing a 57-mm-caliber self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery complex in the interests of the military air defense system, surpassing leading foreign counterparts, said George Zakamennyh, general director of the enterprise. “We are creating a 57-mm self-propelled rapid-fire anti-aircraft artillery system for military air defense. Without disclosing details, I can say that the military equipment being created surpasses the best foreign analogues in terms of the tactical and technical characteristics, ”he said. According to Zakamennykh, “The Petrel” also offered the Navy a rapid-fire automatic artillery installation of a similar caliber - the question of its adoption is currently being decided. “We also offered naval sailors a 57-mm rapid-fire automatic artillery mount, remote-controlled machine gun modules of various calibers. This weaponry allows you to effectively solve a very wide range of tasks. The choice is behind the command of the Navy, ”said the source. 57-MM SHIP ARTILLERY INSTALLATION A-220M

Russia's Armata Tank Looked Like The Future of Warfare (But There Could Be a Problem)

Does Russia’s much vaunted T-14 Armata tank have problems?

There is evidence that the next-generation tank, which has caused a stir in Western defense circles, has run into difficulties, according to Russian defense publication Military-Industrial Courier.

Writer Oleg Falichev uses a bit of inductive reasoning. He first starts with the premise that Armata manufacturer Uralvagonzavod was awarded a contract for 132 experimental Armata models, including T-14 Armata main battle tanks, T-15 infantry fighting vehicles, and T-16 armored recovery vehicles.

“We divide 132 into three and come to the conclusion that the plant should supply 44 tanks annually,” Falichev writes. “...By the end of 2019, the plant will supply only 16 cars, four of which are BREM [armored recovery vehicles].”

“This leaves a deficit of 28 vehicles, which are very unlikely to be finished by the end of this year. In addition, state tests of machines on the Armata platform have not yet been completed and will continue until the end of 2019. Only after that will the final decision be made on serial purchases, which can be adjusted, possibly to the lesser side.”

Ironically, while Western observers are awed by the next-generation tank, which some believe is better than Cold War designs such as the M-1 Abrams or Leopard 2, the Russian military hasn’t exactly been in a hurry to acquire them. The biggest reason is the T-14’s price tag, estimated at almost $4 million apiece. Initial plans to buy 2,300 T-14s by 2025 have been pared down to a bit more than 100 experimental vehicles.

In addition, the Armata itself has teething problems as well as issues inherent to the design, according to Falichev. For example, the T-14 has an unmanned turret operated by a crew safely nestled in the armored hull. Yet while the turret can revolve, the crew compartment cannot. “It is not possible to turn the capsule like a turret, so the emphasis is on optical means and electronics, which can fail in battle,” Falichev notes.

so russians are confident that it will stop western AFPDS rounds. Doesn't look like that turent will survive hit from even 20mm rounds.

so many sensors botched up at one place one hit will make the crew blind.
I think they have made the turret Modular so that if sensors or turret is damaged during combat , it can be replaced immediately instead of sending whole thing back to factory for repair. This probably also shows that Afganit system is a beast of a hard kill system which give Russians enough confidence that it can stop all western NATO AFPDS rounds even those which may be under development.... no wonder Germany and France are going for 140mm smoothbore for there next tank.
Thing to note here is that Afganit hard kill comes in different sizes... The one on T-14 and T-15 are bigger than the one on kurganets-25 probably keeping AFPDS rounds in mind.

Russia announces troop build-up in Far East

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is increasing its military presence in the Far East in response to rising tensions in the wider region, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Thursday.

In remarks cited on the defence ministry website, Shoigu said reinforcements were being sent because of tensions in the "eastern strategic direction", referring to an area encompassing Russia's eastern border with China and the wider Asia-Pacific.

Shoigu did not specify what the new threats were, or where the additional troops would go. He promised 500 units of new and modernised equipment for the region, as well as some improvements to the navy's Northern Fleet.

Alexander Gabuev, an analyst at Moscow's Carnegie Centre, said Russia was ensuring it has sufficient military capabilities in an area where conflicts could spill over, noting a rising risk of a naval clash between the United States and China.

"Russia cannot be left defenceless and it also needs to operate its capabilites there, in terms of air force, defence and personnel," he said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia's concerns in the Far East centred around the actions of powers from outside the region, without specifying any countries or conflicts.

"All of these, of course, do not contribute to stability in this region," said Peskov.

Russia's Far East has also lately seen one of the longest sustained anti-government protest movements of President Vladimir Putin's two decades in power. The city of Khabarovsk, near the Chinese border, has seen weeks of demonstrations against the arrest of a local political leader.

Yep. Looks like Eleven Jinping is using the chance given by COVID to create a legacy.

I think they are creating trouble at the Indian and Russian border because they think this is the best time to engage both countries before either or both become much stronger a few years down the line.

But I'm glad that they are antagonising Russia far sooner than I had hoped.

I thought this might have been a T-62BV but the Kontact-5 ERA on the turret cheeks is pretty undeniable. It looks like the sights/FLIR systems were blown off as well.
