General Bipin Rawat, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC, Chief of Army Staff will be releasing the Book 'Third Battalion The Rajputana Rifles 'Waffadar Paltan' Volume 1 1818-1921' on 3 July 2019
'For centuries, fame and fortune was to be found in India. In 16th and 17th Century India called out to those in search of riches and adventure. Sweeping right across Indian peninsula that once again took the Centre to dominate the European politics, commerce and culture. The British Empire in India began with East India Company, incorporated in 1600, by Royal Charter of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I, to trade with India. In two centuries it became Master of a vast country, by extortion, double speak and outright corruption backed by violence and superior force composed of Indians.
Military is the centre of British Indian History. Military was the tool by which British were able to first establish an Empire and then control it. Yet the Military did not operate in total isolation from the whole Indian society, and the British officer did not live in isolation not concern itself solely with Military work. The history of the 3rd battalion shunts the centre of gravity on the Indian Officers who being ‘waffadar’ rode the tide to establish the British Empire in India. British made elaborate rules to ensure discipline and fidelity.
The book is not a chronology or historical records but narrates events. There is enough fresh scholarship and exploration of the pain and joy in accomplishment of mission. Failures have been narrated along with successes. In Army all is not war, the book covers social aspect , life at the outposts and interpersonal relationship.
The Book has enough material which need further elaboration by students of organization, human behaviour, strategy and tactics.
