Need for 5th Generation fighters for IAF.

pardon my radically different approach but:
invest heavily in Ghatak variants for all roles:
A2A
A2G
A2S and refuelling.

for all intents and purposes, our doctrine is always going to be India centric, we wont need to project power into Pacific or atlantic oceans.

If we have the home grown engine to support churning out 30+ ghataks a year - along with TAPAS and AEWC, we have a potent 5th gen swarm.

LCA is helping in developing auto take off and landing, add autonomous flying and weapons delivery, you are ready to make LCA without a pilot. dont laugh at the possibility of converting that into its own major UCAV.

what we need to invest in is more swarm technology with UAV/UCAV taking the roles of going beyond the borders.

Fifth generation aircraft is de rigueur in future.. and the ambiguity on the part of iaf doesn't help.. even Pakistan has plan of project azm as their fifth generation aircraft. Yeah it will be a loaned j-series jet from china as it seems. china currently has two fifth generation projects which are running in full pace, j31 seems to be an ideal choice for Pakistanis and at some point of time this technology will be ultimately be in hands of Pakistanis only question being when? Yeah Pakistanis don't have money with them now but Chinese do have they can finance Pakistanis purchasing of strategic military vehicles like they did in case of submarines in terms of soft loans. What are our plans? Whats options we have? AMCA is still in drawing boards and their is no guarantee that it will won't be mired by delays and technological challanges. Imagine a post 2025 situation where Pakistanis purchase two squadrons j31 from china. What will be our resort. Will a 4.5+ gen rafale be able to tackle it. Chinese are spending hell lot of money at defence r&d nd it will ultimately land at Pakistanis hand. We need to hv a specified plans.

The kind of plan French have with Rafale, it can tackle anything from china till 2030 without any doubt.

Rafale is 4.5 gen fighter not 5th generation fighter.

China have achieved many things including new stealth teach thanks to their nationalism and huge budget for R&D.

Comparing Rafale with F-31 or J-20 is most idiotic thing one can do

Idiocy or not.. but the question still holds good when compared in context of IAF, PAF nd PLAAF. Suppose post 2025 paf acquires two squadrons of j31 with assistance of soft loans from china.. what will be our resort. If not for comparison then ultimately rafale will be pitted against 5th generation Chinese jet. Will a mere 36 4.5+ rafale suffice or we have to look into a larger no or an option of 5th generation jet from somewhere else cause banking upon AMCA when its still in drawing boards will be sheer stupidity.

Agreed.

Which one will meet our requirements ?

F-35 ? Su-57 ? X-2 ?

Not really. Just badmouthing Chinese products might in a way come to bite us in the butt (aircraft nozzle perhaps). It better to be cautious about the situation and Invest more in AMCA and Ghatak. This way, though its expensive at start, at least we shall be able to get our own Aerospace industry on the right track and then evolve.
As of now France has no real enemies and conflicts and in such case Rafale is fully capable to take down a few pirates or terrorists.
But what if tomorrow some power as capable as say Russia comes at a conflict.
We have seen Indian MiG-21 shoot down an F-16, so we have to plan well so that we are prepared, and not come as a shock. Just imagine this conflict happening in say 1999 and such thing happening? Both Pakistan and USA will be at panic stations, F-16 and MiG-21 are no longer the cutting edge technology now, and so though its surprising, its not that jarring. But if a particular plane is the fulcrum of your defence, and an underrated plane takes it down, that would be a shock to the system. If the other country takes the initiative, we shall be in soup
