K-Series Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles: News & Discussions

Substantial weight reduction compared to the 50t A5, if these specs are correct.

It'd be interesting to see how K5 compares to the A5 mk2 which reportedly already uses CRMC for all 3 stages.
Based on all the known achievements we made in agni series.

A5 MIRV/A6 ( ~45tons) should by all accords be capable of throwing 3 tons of payload to ~8000km.

A5 reportedly weighs somewhere around 40 tons. K5 intends to bring that down further by more energetic and efficient fuel. Just how much fuel efficiency matters is evident in Agni-2 to Agni-P.
Agni-P reportedly uses a new type of fuel.

A5 mk1 came with maraging steel motor casings and a reported launch wt of ~50t. It was considerably heavier than other ICBMs like Russia's Topol-M which has a longer range.

CRMC should reduce that significantly for A5 mk2/A6, considering A-P weighs <50% of the A3.

'More than 20% weight reduction by replacing steel with composites in A5' was reported by HT in 2022. So I'm going with the minimum possible number.

Cause thats not a logical thing to do. Each sub will cost 20,000 crores. Why would anyone spend so much money to design a compromised sub??? Hump back design is a compromise that countries made in old times. It induces a lot of drag. It was done cause their missiles were not compact enough.
We don't know that, maybe the compromises made are worth it in the designers eyes, maybe they are keeping future missile length demands in mind, maybe today's govt doesn't want global coverage but who knows Tommorow's govt might want it,

Its all just guess work. One guy below your post was suggesting 11m to 13m.
And if you would scroll further you would see that I explained his suggestion was wrong because of the perspective warping present in the image.

Correction Agni 5 weighs 50 tons and is 17m long

Old specs. Agni-5 is no longer the Agni-5 that was tasted in the last decade.

That's a different newer missile
Agni 5 mk 2 or Agni 5 Prime

It's like Tejas Mk1 vs Mk1A

What I shared are the Specs of the Original Agni 5

That's irrelevant to the conversation which is about weight reduction and fuel efficiency.
Besides, the specs of the missile you shared of will only form a minor portion of the A5 force (more likely is that it won't at all). At least MK1 got a token force.

why you getting all defensive, Agni 5 and Agni 5 mk2 are 2 very distinct missiles I merely pointed out the data you presented was slightly incorrect that's all.
Old Agni 5 that was user trialed nearly 5 times by SFC won't even be used by SFC at all, how very naive of you

Chinese analysts said during initial Agni 5 tests that with a 500kgs payload, it can reach max theoretical targets at around 8000kms. Wonder what they now think about Agni 5 MK2! With reduced weight and better propellants along with using the same formula/extrapolation, 10,200kms range is a given.

This one ?

This streamlined hull SSBN will most likely carry the K-6 SLBM in the distant future.......The SLBM gonna be compact and have dimensions similar to modern SLBMs like the Trident D5, M51, and Bulava....... There’s just no way the K 5, with its humongous size, can fit inside that kind of hull without a visible hump....... it’s physically impossible.
So as It turns out this is most likely S4 submarine

The Streamlined hump looks very similar

@GASOLINE_ON_FIRE so what now the other potential design of S5 turned out to be for S4 so now hump backed one is the only publically know design of S5
