2022 turned out to the Second best year for Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces casualties include atleast 14 J&K police personnel. In 2012, security forces suffered 18 casualties making it the best year for the security forces in 30 year old insurgency.
Militants suffered 193 casualties in 2022
The total number of active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir came to two digit numbers. Most of the terrorist commanders are wiped out.
Out of the 100 new recruits, 65killed (58 within 1 month of joining) 17 arrested and 18 live.
There are some fundamental changes in the J&K counter insurgency efforts that caused severe damage to the terror ecosystem.
1) Crack down on separatists. Hurriyat conference is under enormous legal pressure with all most all second and top level leaders facing legal challenges. Most of Hurriyat are now inactive. Jamt e islami banned and it's members are hiding/inactive. It's leadership is under constant legal pressure.
2) Crack down on terrorist/separatist assets.
Government of India started seizing properties of terrorists and separatists. Homes of few terrorists demolished and peoples who give shelter to militants ended up having their properties seized by the government. This increased cost of supporting terrorism and created deterrence.
Both these changes become possible due to abrogation of Aticle 370.
Similarly the whole stone pelting enterprise is now non existent. With law and order(and police) under central government, everyone know that there will be no pardon for stone pelters.
