TEL AVIV (Sputnik) - Israeli airstrikes destroyed in 2007 a nuclear facility in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, which was on final stages of its construction, the Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday in a statement.

"During the night of September 5th and 6th, 2007, the Israeli Air Force destroyed a nuclear facility in its last stages of construction in the Deir ez-Zor region in Syria, 280 miles north-east of Damascus. Four F-16 jets eliminated a nuclear threat not only to Israel, but to the entire region," the statement said.

According to the Older Forum, the Military Intelligence Directorate had been monitoring the Syrian nuclear project for two years before the airstrikes. According to intelligence forecasts, the facility would have become active by the end of 2007.
The whole operation lasted for four hours, according to the statement.
"The Military Intelligence Directorate estimated that the nuclear facility was damaged beyond repair. As the Older Forum was preparing for retaliation, it decided that information about the operation shouldn’t be disclosed to the general public at the time. The operation was deemed a success by the Chief of the General Staff. The nuclear facility was destroyed and an escalation in the region prevented. Only a few years later, ISIS [Islamic State, banned in Russia] captured the Deir ez-Zor region. One could only imagine how much havoc they could have wreaked with a nuclear facility in their hands," the statement added.

It was known for some time, and finally they take rightful credit for the act as well. Thank God for Israel.

Wish we had similar balls to bomb the chit out of neighbors nuclear facilities and made Operation Blue Tulsi a success.

That was in the '90s if I'm not mistaken, right? Due to several missed chances in the past, it was already getting late/cutting it too close by then.

If I am correct it was in early 2000's or late 90's when this entire thing was happening at backend. No credible media house covered it so no idea how true it was.

You are forgetting that India is a big country and hence requires much more resources than Israel. Hence trade ties with Arab wold is important. Also, Syria was not in favour with major oil suppliers like GCC and even had hostility. Syria itself was a minor oil supplier and hence did not enjoy much clout.

Pakistan is not that weak and enjoys a close relation with GCC. In addition, India lacked decent military power till early1990s. India did not even have satellites and missiles

I am not forgetting anything at all. there is a wish and there is a rant, mine was more of a wish .

One has inferior opposition and daddy America supporting to the hilt while we are more like an orphan, no real friend.
Yes, the problem with Israel is just that - it is facing extinction. Whereas India is relatively a dominant power. Israel is compelled to act even when not fully ready to maintain its strategic position and punch above the weight to keep enemy at bay. India can afford to wait a bit longer with minimum retaliation for the oil to deplete. Once oil is depleted, things will change.

Desperation of Israel can't be compared to relative dominance of India
