Indo-Israeli Barak-8 / MRSAM

MR SAM of Army with maybe some improvements. The base Variant without the booster is said to have achieved 90+ km range.

But officially it's 70km range with 16km altitude capable MR SAM.
I think we are developing another set of SAM, the XR SAM.

Very interesting details @Gautam @randomradio @hellbent

18 Firing Units for IAF or Army ?

IAF of course. 18 batteries in 9 squadrons. You can see the vehicles are all in IAF colours as well.

IA wants 5 regiments. That logically should have 3 batteries per regiment for a total of 9 operational launchers carrying 72 missiles in total, following in the footsteps of Akash for number of missiles. Adding reserves, it could be 12 launchers per regiment.

So is this 432 missiles for 9 squadron?

An IAF battery has 3 launchers with 8 missiles each. 24 missiles x 18 batteries = 432 missiles.

There's also a reload, 2x. So 54 launchers and 54 reloader vehicles. And a small reserve. So the overall contract is for 1000+ missiles. My own count is 1008 missiles, ie 864+144. 144/8 = 18. So each battery gets 8 extra missiles as reserve.

It's always possible to buy more reloads and launchers as necessary.

IA batteries should follow the exact same configuration, except on high mobility trucks. The only question is how many batteries will make a regiment.

I hope the NGD is at least close to 12k ton to support more vls, if we are to go into it , should be really intimidating. Current ships have very small allocation of AD, also need to consider more CIWS that can counter unmanned threat in multiple domains air & sea.

Azerbaijan and Israel use Barak-8 version of the missile. It has almost similar technologies like our MRSAM but it looks entirely different. Also, Barak-8 has an ER version which we did not develop. It is their standalone development.

On the other hand, MRSAM is a joint venture between IAI and DRDO and its only customers are IA, IAF and IN. Previously, IN used to address this missile as LRSAM but now they have changed it back to MRSAM.

A new longer range missile is being developed for IN and IAF under the name Programme LRSAM.

We should stop using the name Barak-8 and start addressing our version of the missile as MRSAM. I also request to change the name of the thread to MRSAM.
