Hydrography, the art and science of compiling and producing charts, or maps, of water-covered areas of Earth’s surface. The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD), headed by the Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India, is an Indian government agency responsible for hydrographic surveys and nautical charting in India. It's headquarter National Hydrographic Office is located in Dehradun, Uttrakhand beside the Principal Controller of Defense Accounts Office (Air Force). The Indian Navy has a large fleet of hydrograpic survey vessels. Presently 8 ocean-going survey ships are in service with the department. All these ships belong to Sandhayak class except INS Makar which belongs to Makar class. There is an additional ship INS Sagardhwani (A74) used by DRDO-NPOL as a marine acoustic research ship (MARS).

This thread is to keep track of all the present ongoings in the field of hydrography in India.
