It depends on two things. First is your educational qualifications and second is your age. If you are below the age of 19.5 yrs, you can apply for National Defense Academy. If you are above that age and a B.Tech, you can either choose to go thru Combined Defence Services exam or opt for AFCAT. You also have a campus technical entry scheme in which you will be called directly for SSB without passing any exam and you will also get anti dated seniority from the final year of your B.tech if you have not completed it before applying for the teachnical entry scheme.
if you want to be a pilot in the IAF, you need to be a B.tech and should enter thru either NDA or CDS only. You will also need to go thru the SSB interview irrespective of which branch you need to join in IAF. For pilots you need to have excellent physical firness and 6/6 eye sight. Lasik correction is allowed to have such an eye sight. You will also be made to undergo PABT= Pilot Aptitude battery check to be a pilot in IAF or any flying branch of any armed forces of India.
UPSC conducts NDA and CDS exams twice a year and the age limitation is on the date of joining and not for appearing for the exam.
