Europe must resist pressure to become ‘America’s followers,’ says Macron

Obviously. He's been pissed since he lost the australia submarine deal and is clawing at everyone and everything.

How is Taiwan not Europe's problem? Western microchips are made there, making it everyone's problem... unless you want to trust CCP made chips in everything you own.

We, the French, do not have a profitable microchip industry for civilian production, but for the military we consider that profitability is not an important criterion, on the other hand, we are as wary of the Americans and other Anglo-Saxons as we are of the Chinese, so military microchips are generally produced in France and for strategic weapon systems it is mandatory. And because the Rafale carries the ASMP, it is considered strategic.

Words of wisdom.

Doesn't help our position vis a vis China but it's on expected lines. Any war with China & we're on our own .

France would undergo a change of heart if Russia resumed it's campaign in Europe co ordinating it with the Chinese when the latter invades Taiwan in the not so distant future . The die was cast on 24 th Feb 2022. We're just witnessing what's already been foretold.

probably macron is in china trading taiwan ( which is a lost cause any way) for support against russia. every time west bangs its drum for a lost cause of taiwan is just like pumping a stock price which will collapse any way.

does china think it is worth it to trade taiwan for russia and lose a future ally in fight against west by back stabbing russia like they did against soviet union.

Yet on one of the sites, they were buying old printers. To get chips for the Rafale, that were obsolete. I'm glad that is no longer the case.

"...Europe has all it takes to diversify and reduce critical dependencies, while remaining open. We will therefore need to set ambitious plans, from design of chips to advanced manufacturing progressing towards 2nm nodes, with the aim of differentiating and leading on our most important value chains..."

There's considerable overlap between military and civilian though. I.e. suppose the internet is targeted, or TV broadcasting infrastructure, or traffic light networks, railway circuit controllers, power stations - so called hybrid warfare.

You might not fully trust 'Anglo-Saxons', but you're very unlikely to ever have a war with them - it's been over 200 years now, and even that one was your fault.

Up to you, You can believe that every chip used on the rafales, is still being made today.
the search function isn't that good on startegypage . I narrowed it down. I'm not reading the threads again. You are welcome to.
"Yet on one of the sites" "It was said on a rafale thread on strategy page, some years ago"
