BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, with increased indigenous content and improved performance, was successfully test-fired from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha at 1030 hrs on January 20, 2022. The launch was conducted by Brahmos Aerospace in close coordination with the teams of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). In this text-book flight, the missile followed the predicted trajectory meeting all mission objectives.

The flight test is a major milestone in the way forward for BrahMos programme. The highly manouverable missile cruised at supersonic speed for its maximum range and all mission objectives were met. The missile was equipped with the advanced indigenous technologies and followed a modified optimal trajectory for enhanced efficiency and improved performance. The missile with the modified control system has been fine tuned to achieve an enhanced capability. This flight test was monitored by all the sensors of the range instrumentation including telemetry, radar and electro-optical tracking systems deployed across the eastern coast and the down range ships.

Teams from DRDO and NPOM, Russia participated in the test. BrahMos Aerospace, the joint venture between DRDO and NPOM, Russia, has been continuously upgrading the powerful, highly versatile BrahMos to increase its effectiveness and lethality against sea and land targets. BrahMos is the potent missile weapon system already inducted into the Armed Forces.
This is interesting, NPOM was part of the test and the NOTAM is for 750+ Km.

Russian news agency TASS has reported the development of P-800 Oniks extended range version before:
MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. Russia’s Research and Production Association of Machine-Building has developed a sea-launched cruise missile with the 800km range capability and the increased accuracy of striking naval and ground targets, with its flight tests to begin in coming months, two sources in the defense industry told TASS on Wednesday.

"The operational Oniks cruise missile has been used as the basis to develop a new version, the Oniks-M, with the 800km maximum range capability," one of the sources told TASS.

As the source specified, "the missile is outfitted with the improved control system and will be capable of striking both naval and ground targets with greater accuracy." Also, the missile’s protection against electronic counter-measures has been improved, the source added.

So when we say operationalise, what do we exactly mean?

We have a Army unit with a battery active somewhere?

Frames were made in small batch..
Rest of ones from the tested is inducted I guess.
This is what I understood from Tweet by Indranil roy.
Numbers I think in 30s

ITCM program to certify manik engine.
LRLACM program for IA and IN which will be serial produced in numbers.
SLCM program for submarine launched cruise missile.

It will take a long time to operationalise. DRDO scientist just following the long tradition of over promising.

Some small numbers were operationalised for emergency use along the LAC. It's not part of serial production.
Right now we are completely ill prepared to fight any war. Our mechanised forces are completely junk, we don't have enough wheeled platforms for rapid deployment, no proper attack helicopter, no sizeable 3rd gen ATGM, zero night fighting capability, no secure communication, no net centric capability, no TBM etc.

Heck we aren't even modernising our artillery despite having multiple platforms instead we are dragging them in the name of trials.

All the indigenous alternative of the above said short comings are available but we are more interested in kick backs and useless over expensive imports.

Sometimes I feel our generals and security planners should be tried for treason.
