In a significant boost to domestic naval shipbuilding, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) is targeting November 2026 to formally sign the ₹5,000 crore contract for five Next-Generation Survey Vessels (NGSV) for the Indian Navy.
Having earlier emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder in the Ministry of Defence tender, CSL management has confirmed that the procurement is now in its final stages, concluding Price Negotiation Committee (PNC) formalities and progressing toward Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) clearance.
Once formally inked, this sure-shot defense order will expand CSL’s unexecuted order book from ₹22,000 crore to approximately ₹27,000 crore, securing robust multi-year revenue visibility for the shipyard.

A 1500-ton LCU? All ships, of every category, are growing in size. These designations don't make any sense anymore. This is a mini LST in terms of capabilities.
The range is significant. From A&N island this ship could do a one-way trip to Darwin, Australia.

Yep. Amphibious operations/ships are given a step-motherly treatment by the IN & GoI.
If we can have a separate Defence Space Agency (DSA) with a pitiful launch cadence & without a dedicated defence space launcher then there is no reason why we shouldn't have a separate Marine branch of the military.
The launch cadence issue will probably be solved by the private space companies & not by NSIL's rocket manufacturing privatization push. I hope we see the VEDA's first launch in a year.
Indian Navy has been mislabeling its planned amphibious ships; its LPD is an LHD. This isn't an LCU; it is an LST. I read the RFP, and it requires a helipad and a refuelling facility.
