This is turning to be a bad week for Pakistan
India now has a marginally better rate than Pakistan in the US on tariffs. Why it matters
Pakistan's major exports are food products sold at Ethnic grocery stores (Basmati, Pickles, Sauces, Spice mixes, Fruit (mangoes, kinnow etc.))
The customer at these stores is extremely price sensitive (unlike chain stores these stores are pricier by 20% on average). Even a $0.5 difference can swing the decision.
The other major export is textiles, finished garments - Where India is already making smart moves.
The story is similar in Europe - The EU trade deal brings same rates for India eliminating Pak's advantage completely. Further electricity, machinery is cheaper in India making long term manufacturing cheaper in India.
Industry experts are already calling for major reforms and government intervention claiming India's moves will cause a direct ~20% drop in exports in the first 2 years alone at the very least.
